Training fellowships are a key aspect of Rozana’s mission to promote treatment of diseases in the Palestinian population and build its health capacity.
The Medical Fellowship Program funds young Palestinian clinicians from Palestinian hospitals, to train in Israel under highly qualified and experienced Israeli medical specialists. They learn a much needed sub-specialty and bring their skills and knowledge back to their home hospitals in the West Bank and Gaza.
Previous fellows completed their two-year residencies in Paediatric Intensive Care at Hadassah Hospital, Jerusalem, and in Anaesthesiology at Sheba Hospital in Tel Aviv.
2019
The 2019 Fellowship was awarded to Dr Khadra Salami, senior pediatrician in hematological-oncology at Augusta Victoria Hospital, East Jerusalem. She is pictured below in front of the pediatric oncology center, and with Dr Bilal Alshawamra, Nephrologist AVH.
Due to COVID-19 and urgent re-prioritisation of medical requirements and clinical resources at Augusta Victoria Hospital, this fellowship has been put on hold.
2017
Sponsored by Rozana, the first Palestinian physician sub-specialty fellowships were awarded to Dr Mohammed Majed Rabee Skafi from Hebron and Dr Majed Dabur from Ramallah for speciality training at Hadassah Hospital and Sheba Medical Centre.
The purpose of the fellowships is to encourage Palestinian physicians to continue their training in a needed sub-specialty at leading Israeli hospitals. The recipients, Dr Mohammed Majed Rabee Skafi from Hebron, worked in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hadassah, and Dr Majed Dabur from Ramallah completed her residency in anaesthesiology at Sheba. The fellowships form a key element of Rozana’s mantra ‘train local, sustain local’ to help strengthen Palestinian healthcare capacity and also encourage professional and personal connections.
